The Villa Vie Odyssey, a luxury cruise ship, has ended its voyage prematurely due to high fuel costs, with the company working to provide temporary living arrangements for its passengers. According to reports, the monthly fuel cost per cabin in parts of Asia has risen to $8,000, making it unsustainable for the ship to continue its journey.
The ship, which departed Belfast in October 2024, was more than 750 days into its voyage when it suspended operations. The company will spend the next 60 days on restructuring and recapitalization, during which time it will work to find a solution for the affected passengers.
The Villa Vie Odyssey can carry up to 650 passengers, who were initially sold a three-year voyage to the seven continents, combining long-term living at sea with global travel. The suspension of the voyage has left these passengers without their homes, as they had been living on the ship.
