Warhound, a startup founded by Palmer Luckey, has come out of stealth with a mission to genetically engineer dogs for the military, law enforcement, and first responder operations. The company has raised $200 million in funding and plans to create elite working dogs equipped with advanced body armor, with Anduril designing the protective gear.
According to reports, the dogs will be trained to detect bombs and aid in search-and-rescue operations, with the initial breeds being mostly Belgian Malinois. The first puppies are anticipated to be born in early 2027, marking a significant milestone for the company.
Warhound's goal is to eliminate common health conditions in dogs through gene editing, resulting in healthier and more capable working dogs. With the funding and expertise in place, Warhound is poised to make a significant impact in the field of genetically engineered working dogs.
